Spawned by Adbusters.com, social media and the Arab Spring, the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement sought to rid politics of money interests. During the protests of September 2011, sympathizers gathered in New York's financial district to picket, upset the status quo and hold discussions.
The movement spread nationwide and to some international cities still reeling from the 2008 financial crisis.
Here in New York, people from diverse backgrounds assembled to protest the economic policies that put 1/3rd of the nation's wealth in the hands of 1% of the population. They speak for the 99.
